The Gold Standard of Conversion: Where Scientific Precision Meets Premium Design.
"As a student who uses unit converters a lot, I got tired of outdated UIs."
The world didn't need another unit converter—it needed a better one. Existing tools were a dichotomy: either clunky, ad-ridden utilities or complex scientific tools that were painful to use.
For engineers and scientists, standard floating-point errors (like 0.1 + 0.2 = 0.300000004) are unacceptable. A tool that sacrifices accuracy for convenience is useless.
Precision matters. In scientific and engineering contexts, even minor floating-point inaccuracies can lead to significant calculation errors downstream.
Key Focus Areas
Scientific Accuracy
Over 40 categories and 260+ units with a 50 decimal digit precision lighting fast speed.
For engineers and scientists, 'close enough' isn't enough. Standard calculators fail at basic tasks like 0.1 + 0.2 due to binary floating-point limitations. Ratio treats numbers with the rigor of a lab instrument.
Creative Integration
I realized that to build the best converter, I had to look outside the category. Therefore, I took inspiration from apps outside the unit converter industry.
Why shouldn't a converter have a 'Favorite' feature? Or a history log? Or batch conversion? By implementing features like precision control and session history, I turned a simple utility into a state-of-the-art power tool.
Premium Experience
Design is an art, and it should be treated as such.
Jony Ive was obsessed with design, and that obsession is what made Apple products legendary. I believe that even a utility app deserves to be beautiful. Great design isn't just about how it looks—it's about how it makes the user feel.
I engineered a workflow from scratch, which required a lot of sketching and thinking about how to simplify the process as much as possible, creating a unique experience for users.
- WIN
I've shared this app with some friends, and they all love how modern it feels. They praise everything from the design to the simplicity to the overall experience.
- TAKEAWAY
It's not enough to conform with the existing tools that we have. Excellence requires going above and beyond, and sometimes that means creating something new from the ground up.
