Unburden

Visualize, plan, and conquer your student loans. See exactly how different payment strategies can save you thousands.

Creator's Note

"I created this app out of a firsthand need for a tool that lets students manage, visualize, and analyze how different variables in their student loans affect them."

The Challenge

There was no comprehensive, easy-to-use, privacy-first app to help students plan ahead on their loans so they could make the most out of them. I decided to solve this.

Context

Navigating student loans is complex and often opaque. Understanding the long-term impact of interest rates and repayment terms is crucial.

Stakes

The financial well-being of millions of students who rely on loans to succeed in their education.

Why This App Stands Out
01

Interactive tweaking and personalization

Built a reactive visualization engine where every slider adjustment instantly ripples through the loan projections.

Static numbers are hard to grasp. By making the data responsive, users can 'feel' the impact of an extra $50 payment or a 1% interest rate difference.

02

Clean Visualization

Replaced complex amortization tables with intuitive, color-coded area charts that show interest vs. principal over time.

An image says more than a thousand words, and I tried to embed that idea in the app by providing clear graphs and representations that help students grasp the potential of their loans more clearly.

03

Born from Real Need

I developed it based on my own real-world need for a tool that helps us manage student debt intelligently.

My hope for this app is that anyone who needs a student loan to support their future has the tools at hand to do so confidently.

Retrospective
The Challenge

The hardest part of this project was setting up the loan logic correctly, which got even messier when I implemented support for more than one loan at a time. It required a lot of time, thinking, and learning all about how loans work.

Key Learnings
  • WIN

An app that lets any student clearly visualize how a loan is an amazing tool, but one that has to be used carefully.

  • TAKEAWAY

There is nothing as fulfilling as creating something that is meant to help others, especially when you know there's a need for it.
